Seybold's Mom and Health Care

I am not usually one to pass along rumors, but this one is just too much for me to resist.  According to a source in Marion, Indiana, where Fifth District GOP Congressional candidate Wayne Seybold is Mayor, Seybold's mother, despite living in the USA for many years, remains a British citizen.  According to the source, the reason is that Mom Seybold wants to stay on Britain's national health service.

THAT might be a bit of a quandry for Mayor Seybold, his mother being on "socialized medicine".  Seybold's published position on American healthcare reform is this:
Wayne Seybold will aggressively advocate a repeal of the radical government take over of our nation’s healthcare system.

Not only is the Affordable Care Act (aka "Obamacare") most decidely NOT a "government take over", it feeds several million new customers to private insurance companies, and was originally an idea of the uber-conservative Heritage Foundation.

But I digress.  We have the sight of a conservative Republican candidate blasting healthcare reform that to my mind is pretty modest and of GOP and conservative origins, and his own mother is on REAL socialized medicine?  Give me a break.

This inspires me to do more digging on Mayor Seybold, to see if the Mayor's image equals reality.  Stay tuned.

  1. Pretty much explains why there are only five democrats in Hamilton county.

Really? Dude, do your homework. This lady has DUAL citizenship. She pays for health care here in the states. You just lost any but of credibility that you had.

You really went after his mom??..wow an time low for you. Its really hard to understand why you would go after Mr.Seybolds mother. Shall we turn the tables and start going after your family. You ran for office, I guess you are also fair game.Do you really want to go there? You owe that woman and Mr Seybold apology.Your facts are totally wrong. Man up and admit you were wrong.

Until you admit you were wrong and made this up, you will always be known as a liar.

    1. I pointedly did NOT go after his mom. And the United States does not recognize dual citizenship. I just pointed out that this was an interesting rumor, which if true, might be embarrassing politically for Mayor Seybold. As far as I am concerned, she is more than entitled to be a British citizen and use their National Health Service, or not, as she wishes. The current system of the good old USA is a mess.

    2. Man, you are one tough SOB going after a mother of a candidate are you kidding me? For being an educated man....Your an Idiot! Political Suicide! Lets brake down your family and talk about your personal issue? You really just stooped to a lower level....Still baffles my mind a grown man busting on another's mother. Reminds me of something a elementary school student would do, maybe you should go back to elementary school and have your teacher explain respect one more time cause apparently it didn't stick! WARNING GREG PURVIs WILL TALK ABOUT YOUR MOM IF YOU RUN AGAINST HIM! LOL

  2. This is embarrassing. I didn't know that we used rumors in political campaigns. You should be ashamed of your self. Maybe we can start some rumors about you.

  3. I seem to have inspired a troll attack, including personal attacks on me full of spelling and grammatical errors, to say nothing of factual errors.

I seem to have hit on a nerve with some, who are styling it an attack on Seybold's mother. Hogwash, it is nothing of the sort. She has done nothing wrong. And good for her if she wants to retain her British citizenship, or not, as she chooses, or uses Britain's National Health Service, or not, as she chooses.

I simply pointed out that it might be embarrassing to Mayor Seybold IF this were true, given his standard right-wing bashing of "Obamacare". Nothing more, nothing less. The trollish replies indicate that this is perhaps a touchy subject for the right-wingers that Seybold is courting. If so, maybe they should also look at Seybold's support of the auto bailouts which they loathe, but which saved cities like Marion and Kokomo. THAT is no rumor, and Mayor Seybold was correct to support the bailout that prevented his city from becoming an economic wasteland, no matter how much the Radical Right hates it.

  4. Also, assuming that Mom Seybold may be a naturalized US Citizen, the following law would apply, requiring her to give an oath "to renounce and abjure absolutely and entirely all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which the applicant was before a subject or citizen" 8 U.S.C. Section 1448(a). That pretty much prohibits someone from being a naturalized citizen and retaining their foreign citizenship as well, the co-called "dual citizenship".

  5. I didn't take this as an attack on Seybold's mother. She can choose whatever she wants to do but he shouldn't be bashing our Health Care act especially seeing how much a similar health program means to his mother.
